Living with Toxins in our Body

Many of us will be looking to shed a few pounds in order to have the perfect summer body to show off. One of the most popular ways to do so is to use a “Detox” program, but what exactly is a detox?

All of us are exposed to toxins every day; either from the food that we eat, liquids that we drink or even air that we breathe. Detoxification or “detox” is the removal of all of these toxins in our bodies.  A healthy detox program will improve your overall health and improve your metabolism.  That is why weight-loss is often the physical outcome of a detox process. 

However there are some detox programs that should be avoided.  Any detox that relies solely on the intake of liquids can put stress on your heart and increase your blood pressure. Find a detox that will allow for normal food intake. Also, detoxes that contain laxatives are usually very effective for weight loss but should be avoided as they can actually strip the body of essential nutrients and can cause dehydration.

 Workable Lifestyle Suggestions
  • Decrease your sugar, processed food, alcohol as well as red meat intake; increase your fiber instead.
  • Stay hydrated and exercise until it makes you sweat.
  • Alternate hot and cold water during your shower, it will stimulate circulation and lymphatic flow.
  • Take lots of deep breathes and increase your lung’s capacity to release toxins in the airway.
  • Start taking good quality multi-vitamins which will help to keep your body in perfect balance.
  • Drink a cup of fresh squeezed lemon juice and water in the morning.
  • Drink dandelion, milk thistle green or white tea, they will stimulate your liver to expel more toxins.
  • Detox programs normally last for 2 to 4 weeks, but exercise and breathing can be done all of the time!
